Studying the dietary habits and symptoms of postmenopausal women during situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic is important to mitigate long-term post-pandemic health problems. We compared the menopausal symptoms and food consumption in postmenopausal women before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. A longitudinal survey was conducted on postmenopausal Brazilian women between 2018 and 2021. The Kupperman-Blatt Menopausal Index, Women's Health Questionnaire, and 24 h food recall were used. Of 274 women, 78 (28.5%) participated in the study during the COVID-19 pandemic. The intensity of the symptoms was lower during the pandemic than during the previous period (p < 0.05). Energy and processed food consumption were lower during the pandemic than before (p = 0.003 and p = 0.003, respectively). Milk and plain yogurt consumption were also lower (p = 0.043), while the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and sweet foods was higher (p = 0.007 and p = 0.001, respectively) during the pandemic. There was also a decrease in the consumption of proteins and lipids (p = 0.001 and p = 0.004, respectively). In conclusion, we found that postmenopausal women consumed sweet foods and sugar-sweetened beverages in higher quantities and had a lower consumption of milk and plain yogurt and processed foods during the pandemic than during the pre-pandemic period. Furthermore, decreases in energy and macronutrient consumption were observed.

BACKGROUND: Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 on automatic mechanical ventilation have greater heart rate modulation with greater parasympathetic modulation. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the autonomic modulation of heart rate in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 on invasive mechanical ventilation. METHODS: A cross-section study was carried out with 36 individuals divided into two groups. The control group included patients of both genders, in orotracheal intubation with invasive mechanical ventilation under controlled assisted mode, hospitalized in the intensive care unit for another 24 h. In the non-COVID group, patients diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 in the same condition mentioned in the control group. RESULTS: There was a significant increase in heart rate variability (standard deviation of all normal RR intervals recorded at an interval of time; p=0.001; triangular interpolation histogram of RR intervals; p=0.048; and SD2; p=0.014) in the coronavirus disease group compared to the non-COVID group. Successively, the parameters that demonstrate parasympathetic modulation are shown to be higher in the group of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (root mean square of the square of differences between adjacent normal RR intervals in an interval of time; p<0.001; pNN50; p<0.001; SD1; p=0.002; and high frequency; p=0.022). CONCLUSIONS: There was a greater autonomic modulation of heart rate with a greater parasympathetic modulation in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 on mechanical ventilation.

BACKGROUND: High blood pressure is an important public health problem due to its high prevalence, the difficulty to control it, and its high contribution to morbidity. A series of changes may be linked to the aging process, compromising cardiac conduction, and reducing cardiovascular baroreceptor function. Advancing age promotes a decline in heart rate variability and this decrease can increase the probability of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to analyze the autonomic modulation of heart rate in hypertensive elderly individuals during and after a session of aerobic exercise, and to compare it with elderly individuals without cardiovascular or metabolic disease. Our study was a non-randomized controlled study with hypertensive elderly (HBP group) and elderly without cardiovascular and/or metabolic diseases (control group). Data on blood pressure and heart rate variability (HRV) were collected before, during, and after 30 min of aerobic physical exercise on a treadmill. There was a reduction in HF (ms2) and SD1 (ms) in the 5 min of recovery for the elderly in the control group. The elderly in the control group also had greater RMSSD and SD1 30 min post-exercise when compared to the initial mins of recovery. We concluded that there was no difference in autonomic modulation and global heart rate variability between elderly individuals without cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and hypertensive individuals after a bout of aerobic exercise. Elderly individuals without metabolic diseases showed a decrease in parasympathetic modulation and global variability between the time of rest and 5 min of recovery. However, up to 30 min of post-exercise recovery, they restored parasympathetic activity.

INTRODUCTION: Aging affects the cardiovascular system by impairing the amount and strength of cardiac pumping. Heart rate variability (HRV) is a safe parameter to assess variations in the cardiovascular system, providing data on sympathetic and parasympathetic activations. OBJECTIVES: Our primary aim is to investigate the cardiac autonomic modulation and body composition of active older adults participating in a physical exercise protocol and gametherapy. Our secondary aim is to assess their functional capacity, cognitive function, balance, respiratory pressures, and functional autonomy. METHOD: This randomized clinical trial will include 100 active older adults aged 60 to 80 years. The exercise group (EG) will perform 24 supervised training sessions (strength and aerobic) for 12 weeks (2 60-minutes sessions per week). The gametherapy group (GG) will exercise using gametherapy. Assessments will occur on the first week, after the 12th week, after wash out and in the end of cross over. The primary outcome will be HRV and body composition (bioimpedance). Secondary outcomes will be functional capacity (6-minute walk test), cognitive function (mini-mental state examination), risk of falls and balance (berg balance scale and timed up and go test), inspiratory and expiratory pressures (manovacuometry) and functional autonomy (functional reach test and group of Latin American development to maturity [GDLAM] protocol). DISCUSSION: This study will provide relevant information about the effects of physical training (physical exercises and gametherapy) on HRV and other variables in active older adults.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has negative impacts on general health of the population, social isolation can contribute to the emergence of various dysfunctions. Objective: To investigate the association musculoskeletal pain, sleep quality and migraine with the level of physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic in college students. Method: Data were collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire containing questions regarding sample characterization, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results: In the correlation made between the data at the beginning of the pandemic, there was a direct relationship between PSQI and the number of days with pain (p < 0.001), the Initial MIDAS score (p < 0.001) and the initial pain intensity (p < 0.001). There was a direct relationship between PSQI scores and age (p = 0.044), MIDAS (p < 0.001) and pain intensity (p < 0.001). We identified a direct relationship between MIDAS and the number of days with pain (p < 0.001) and pain intensity (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Social isolation, during the COVID-19 pandemic, probably potentiated painful symptoms in various parts of the body, worsening sleep quality and migraine. In addition, there is a strong evidence that the decrease in physical activity during the pandemic is associated with sleep quality, with the number of days with musculoskeletal pain and migraine.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate in postmenopausal women the association between menopause symptom intensity and the quality of life and clinical, anthropometric, and lifestyle factors, focusing on food consumption by degree of processing. STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional study of 288 postmenopausal women using interviews. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The Kupperman-Blatt Menopausal Index and the Women's Health Questionnaire were used to evaluate the main outcomes of menopausal symptom intensity and quality of life, respectively. Data on socioeconomic, clinical, anthropometric, and lifestyle variables (smoking, alcohol intake, physical activity, and food consumption) were collected. RESULTS: Most women had moderate to severe intensity of menopausal symptoms. The highest tertile of ultra-processed food consumption was associated with a greater intensity of vasomotor symptoms (prevalence ratio [PR] 0.73, 95% confidence intervals [CI] 0.55-0.96) and sexual behavior (PR 1.22, CI 1.01-1.49). Higher intakes of sugar-sweetened beverages and sausages were associated with somatic symptoms (PR 1.23, CI 1.01-1.49) and poorer memory/concentration (PR 1.22, CI 1.02-1.47/ PR 1.22, CI 1.01-1.48). The highest tertile of vegetable intake was associated with greater protection against depressive mood (PR 0.64, CI 0.43-0.96), vasomotor symptoms (PR 0.79, CI 0.63-0, 99), and sleep disorders (PR 0.83, CI 0.69-0.99), and better quality of life (PR 0.79, CI 0.62-0.99). CONCLUSION: More intense vasomotor, sexual, somatic, and memory and concentration symptoms are associated with a higher consumption of ultra-processed foods, whereas those with a higher consumption of vegetables reported lower menopause symptom intensity and a better quality of life.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The development of public policies must be guided by full knowledge of the health-disease process of the population. Aerobic exercises are recommended for rehabilitation in stroke patients, and have been shown to improve heart rate variability (HRV). Our aim was to compare the cardiac autonomic modulation of elderly stroke patients with that of healthy elderly people during and after an acute bout of aerobic exercise. METHODS: A total of 60 elderly people participated in the study (30 in the control group, mean age of 67 ± 4 years; 30 in the stroke group, mean age of 69 ± 3 years). HRV was analyzed in rest-10 min of rest in supine position; exercise-the 30 min of peak exercise; and recovery-30 min in supine position post-exercise. RESULTS: Taking rest and exercises together, for SDNN, RMSSD, pNN50, RRTri, and TINN, there was no difference between the stroke and control groups (p = 0.062; p = 0.601; p = 0.166; p = 0.224, and p = 0.059, respectively). The HF (ms2) was higher and the LF/HF ratio was lower for the stroke group than the control group (p < 0.001 and p = 0.007, respectively). The SD2 was lower for the stroke group than for the control group (p = 0.041). CONCLUSION: Stroke patients present reduced variability at rest, sympathetic predominance during exercise, and do not return to baseline after the 30 min of recovery, with similar responses found in the healthy elderly group.

BACKGROUNG: Cardiac arrest is a severe public health problem and a leading cause of death worldwide. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), basic life support (BLS) is the bedrock for improving people's survival after a cardiac arrest. Through scientific evidence, empowering health professionals focuses on education in resuscitation is vital to identify and attend a Cardiac arrest victim. In Brazil, there is a lack of data that evaluates the BLS knowledge of health science students. This study analyzed the knowledge retention of medicine, nursing, and physiotherapy students after one year of having a lecture demonstration on BLSMETHODS: Longitudinal study. Undergraduate students of health science participated in the data collection and answered a questionnaire based on BLS following AHA guidelines. Data were collected during two consecutive years in three different moments (an assessment, a test after a lecture, and an assessment test one year laterRESULTS: The group improved its score after the class on BLS; the number of correct answers doubled (p <0.001); however, one year later, that score decreased significantly (p <0.001CONCLUSION: No retention of knowledge in health sciences students after a year of a lecture demonstration on BLS


INTRODUÇÃO: A parada cardíaca (PC) é um grave problema de saúde pública e uma das principais causas de morte em todo o mundo. De acordo com a American Heart Association (AHA), o suporte básico de vida (SBV) é a base para melhorar a sobrevivência das pessoas após uma parada cardiorrespiratória e a ressuscitação cardiopulmonar é um aspecto crucial. Por meio de evidências científicas, capacitar os profissionais de saúde com foco na educação em ressuscitação é fundamental para identificar e atender uma vítima de parada cardíaca. No Brasil, faltam dados que avaliem o conhecimento em SBV de estudantes de ciências da saúde. Este estudo analisou a retenção de conhecimento de estudantes de Enfermagem, Fisioterapia e Medicina, após um ano de realização de uma palestra-demonstração sobre SBVMÉTODO: Estudo longitudinal. Estudantes de graduação em ciências da saúde que participaram da coleta de dados e responderam a um questionário baseado no SBV seguindo as diretrizes da AHA. Os dados foram recolhidos durante dois anos consecutivos, em três momentos distintos (uma avaliação, um teste após a aula e um teste de avaliação um ano após a aulaRESULTADOS: O grupo melhorou sua pontuação após a palestra sobre SBV; o número de acertos dobrou (p <0,001); no entanto, um ano depois, essa pontuação diminuiu significativamente (p <0,001CONCLUSÃO: Não houve retenção de conhecimento após um ano de uma aula-demonstrativa sobre SBV em estudantes de ciências da saúde

[Purpose] To evaluate mobility of the sacroiliac joint and plantar pressure changes. [Participants and Methods] This was an analytical study comprised of 300 participants, using a functional kinetic evaluation involving the test of standing flexion (SFT), the test of Downing, the test of Gillet, and the analysis of baropodometry. [Results] There was an association between mobility of the sacroiliac joint and the standing center of gravity. However, the mobility of this joint was not associated with plantar pressure and the plantar contact area. [Conclusion] These data suggest that sacroiliac mobility is linked to the center of gravity. This connection may precede sacroiliac dysfunction and may help to improve the accuracy of the tests.

INTRODUCTION: The use of realistic simulation methodology is used in several learning scenarios, allowing students to participate directly in the problematization of situations that require immediate professional action. OBJECTIVE: To develop, validate and validate a low cost simulator for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and resuscitation procedures in infants. METHODS: An experimental study carried out with undergraduate students of the 1st year of the Nursing course at a higher education institution in the State of Paraíba, developed a simulator model with dimensions similar to an infant with low cost materials and made possible the use as a prototype for Basic Life Support training. The prototype was developed with the accessories for disengagement and cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire based on the American Hearth Association Basic Life Support guideline to enable and validate the Basic Life Support training instrument. RESULTS: The low-cost prototype for Basic Life Support training was used as a learning object adequately and enabled the teaching-learning process as an accessible resource at low cost. Based on the questionnaire applied, we observed that there was an increase in the median number of correct answers and a reduction in the median of errors, which indicated an improvement in the acquisition of information and improvement in learning, observed through the test of Signal of Related Samples and the test of the Signs of Wilcoxon, (MA) and errors (ME), before and after training where it was found that there was an increase in MA and a reduction in ME with 5% significance (p <0.001). The frequencies of response modifications after training with the simulator were also studied by means of the two-tailed McNemar test where Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q8, Q9, Q13 and Q15 questions showed significant changes (p <0, 05). CONCLUSION: A prototype was developed that simulated the training activity in Basic Life Support, which made it possible to carry out the procedures appropriately in positioning and simulation of cardiac resuscitation, mouth / nose ventilation, and tapping in the scapular region. Which allowed the validation of disengagement and resuscitation training as a low cost alternative for health education.


INTRODUÇÃO: O uso da metodologia de simulação realística é utilizado em diversos cenários de aprendizado, permitindo aos discentes a participação direta na problematização de situações que requerem ação profissional imediata. OBJETIVO: Desenvolver, viabilizar e validar um simulador de baixo custo para procedimentos de desengasgo e reanimação cardiopulmonar em lactentes. MÉTODO: Estudo experimental realizado com alunos de graduação do 1° ano do curso de Enfermagem em uma instituição de ensino superior do Estado da Paraíba, foi desenvolvido um modelo simulador com dimensões similares a um lactente com materiais de baixo custo e acessórios para manobras de desengasgo e reanimação cardiopulmonar, viabilizado o uso como protótipo para treinamento de Suporte Básico de Vida. O instrumento de coleta de dados foi o questionário baseado no guideline do Suporte Básico de Vida da American Hearth Association. RESULTADOS: O protótipo para treinamento em Suporte Básico de Vida foi utilizado como adequadamente e viabiliza o processo ensino-aprendizagem como recurso acessível de baixo custo. O questionário aplicado observamos que houve incremento na mediana de acertos e redução na mediana de erros e indicou melhora na aquisição de informações e aprendizado, através do teste de Sinal de Amostras Relacionadas e o teste dos Postos Sinalizados de Wilcoxon, as medianas de acertos (MA) e erros (ME), antes e depois do treinamento, com o aumento de MA e redução em ME com 5% de significância (p<0,001). As respostas as questões Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q8, Q9, Q13 e Q15 mostraram modificações significativas (p<0,05), após o treinamento com o simulador por meio do Jteste de McNemar bicaudal ao estudar as frequências de modificações de respostas. CONCLUSÃO: O protótipo obteve sua aplicação em simulação de atividade de treinamento em Suporte Básico de Vida, viabilizou a realização dos procedimentos da forma adequada em posicionamento e simulação de reanimação cardíaca, ventilação boca/nariz e tapotagem na região escapular, permitiu validar o treinamento de desengasgo e reanimação como uma alternativa de baixo custo para educação em saúde.

INTRODUCTION: Dengue is an acute systemic viral infectious disease, established worldwide in epidemic and endemic transmission cycles. High levels of precipitation, adequate temperatures, proximity between urban and peri-urban centers, human movement between population centers and urban solid waste (USW) production may facilitate dengue transmission and spreadOBJECTIVE: To identify the relationship between diagnosed dengue cases and socioeconomic factors, USW mass generation and rainfall indexMETHODS: Ecological study, with secondary data collection from 2010 to 2016 for each municipality of the Greater ABC Region in São Paulo, Brazil. Total population, gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, USW, number of dengue cases and rainfall index were investigated. Data were collected on the websites of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the municipalities of the Greater ABC Region, the Greater ABC Intermunicipal Consortium, the Greater ABC Economic Development Agency, the National Sanitation Information System, Surveillance Epidemiological Survey of the State of São Paulo and the Department of Water and Electric Energy of the State of São Paulo. Relationships between variables were tested by Spearman correlationRESULTS: Data analysis of all municipalities showed a positive correlation between dengue cases with total population (r=0.675, p<0.01), gross domestic product per capita (r=0.539, p<0.01) and MSW by inhabitant per year (r=0.492, p<0.01). Positive correlations were also observed between total population and gross domestic product per capita (r=0.583, p<0.01), MSW / Day (r=0.302, p<0.05) and MSW/year (r=0.961, p<0.01); gross domestic product per capita and MSW/day (r=0.849, p<0.01), MSW/year (r=0.410, p<0.05) and rainfall index (RI) (r=0.416, p<0.05); MSW / day and MSW / year (r=0.389, p<0.01) and RI (r=0.388, p<0.05CONCLUSION: The larger the total population, purchasing power or socioeconomic status (GDP per capita) and the generation of MSW, the greater the number of dengue cases. Proper packaging of MSW seems to be a way to help in dengue cases control


INTRODUÇÃO: A dengue é uma doença infecciosa viral sistêmica aguda, estabelecida mundialmente em ciclos de transmissão epidêmica e endêmica. Altos níveis de precipitação, temperaturas adequadas, proximidade entre centros urbanos e peri-urbanos, movimento humano entre centros populacionais e produção de resíduos sólidos urbanos (RSU) podem facilitar a transmissão e a disseminação da dengueOBJETIVO: Identificar a relação entre casos diagnosticados de dengue e fatores socioeconômicos, geração de massa de RSU e índice pluviométricoMÉTODO: Estudo ecológico, com coleta secundária de dados de 2010 a 2016 para cada município da Região do Grande do ABC, em São Paulo, Brasil. Foram investigados a população total, o produto interno bruto (PIB) per capita, RSU, número de casos de dengue e índice pluviométrico. Os dados foram coletados nos sites do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), os municípios da Região do Grande ABC, o Consórcio Intermunicipal do Grande ABC, a Agência de Desenvolvimento Econômico do Grande ABC, o Sistema Nacional de Informação sobre Saneamento, Centro de Vigilância Epidemiológica do Estado de São Paulo e o Departamento de Água e Energia Elétrica do Estado de São Paulo. As relações entre variáveis foram testadas pela correlação de SpearmanRESULTADOS: A análise dos dados de todos os municípios mostrou correlação positiva entre casos de dengue com população total (r = 0,675, p <0,01), produto interno bruto per capita (r = 0,539, p <0,01) e RSU por habitante por ano (r = 0,492, p <0,01). Também foram observadas correlações positivas entre população total e produto interno bruto per capita (r = 0,583, p <0,01), RSU / dia (r = 0,302, p <0,05) e RSU / ano (r = 0,961, p <0,01); produto interno bruto per capita e RSU / dia (r = 0,849, p <0,01), RSU / ano (r = 0,410, p <0,05) e índice de precipitação (IR) (r = 0,416, p <0,05); RSU / dia e RSU / ano (r = 0,389, p <0,01) e IR (r = 0,388, p <0,05CONCLUSÃO: Quanto maior a população total, poder de compra ou condição socioeconômica (PIB per capita) e a geração de RSU, maior o número de casos de dengue. O descarte adequada dos RSU parece ser uma maneira de ajudar no controle dos casos de dengue

OBJECTIVE: The association between gynecological diagnoses and their distribution across healthcare sectors benefits health promotion and the identification of topics for continued education of gynecological care. This study aimed to identify healthcare diagnoses and referral flow in climacteric women. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study conducted at the Women's Health Clinic of the University Hospital, University of São Paulo, with a reference to gynecology and training for Residents of Family and Community Medicine, between 2017 and 2018. The medical records of 242 women whose sociodemographic and clinical information, gynecological diagnoses, and distribution of healthcare services (primary, secondary, and tertiary) had been processed were collected. Statistical analysis included the chi-square test and odds ratio. RESULTS: Smoking (OR = 2.27, 95% CI 1.05-4.89; p = 0.035) was associated with the referral of climacteric women to higher complexity services. Considering the distribution of non-oncological diagnoses in climacteric patients, the chance of women being referred to medium- and high-complexity health services presented a 2-fold increase in cases of breast diseases, a 2.35-fold increase in cases of noninflammatory disorders of the female genital tract, and a 3-fold increase in cases of inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs. CONCLUSION: Climacteric women aged over 55 years, postmenopausal women, and smoking women were most frequently referred to medium- and high-complexity outpatient surgery.

RESUMO INTRODUÇÃO A associação entre diagnósticos ginecológicos e sua distribuição nos setores de saúde proporciona benefícios no campo da promoção de saúde e na identificação de temas para educação continuada na assistência. OBJETIVO Identificar os diagnósticos em saúde e o fluxo de encaminhamento de mulheres no climatério. MÉTODO Trata-se de estudo transversal realizado no Ambulatório de Saúde da Mulher do Hospital Universitário da Universidade de São Paulo, de referência em ginecologia e de treinamento para residentes de Medicina de Família e Comunidade, entre 2017-2018. A casuística foi realizada a partir de 274 prontuários de mulheres atendidas e foram processados informações sociodemográficas e clínicas, diagnósticos ginecológicos e distribuição dos serviços de saúde (primário, secundário e terciário). O teste qui-quadrado e razão de chance foram utilizados para estatística. RESULTADOS O tabagismo (OR=2,27, IC95% 1,05;4,89, p=0,035) foi associado ao encaminhamento de mulheres no climatério para a maior complexidade. Em relação aos tipos de diagnóstico, a chance de serem encaminhadas para a média e alta complexidade foi de 135% (OR=1,69, IC95% 0,93;3,08) nos transtornos não inflamatórios do trato genital feminino, 200% (OR=0,98, IC95% 0,23;4,02) nas doenças da mama, 300% (OR=1,51, IC95% 0,47;4,83) nos transtornos inflamatórios do trato genital feminino, sem predomínio entre os diagnósticos. CONCLUSÃO As mulheres climatéricas e na pós-menopausa acima de 50 anos e tabagistas com diagnósticos de transtornos não inflamatórios do trato genital feminino e inflamatórios, bem como doenças da mama, foram as mais direcionadas para ambulatório cirúrgico na média e alta complexidade.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) represents cardiac autonomic behavior and have been related to menopausal symptoms, mainly vasomotor symptoms and their imbalance to cardiovascular risk. It is not clear in the literature which index represents this imbalance and what is their involvement with the menopausal state. The aim of this study was to evaluate HRV in menopausal transition and post-menopausal symptoms with different intensities. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Rio Branco, State of Acre, Brazil from October 2016 to July 2017. We used Kupperman-Blatt Menopausal Index (KMI) to measure menopausal symptoms intensity. HRV analysis was performed based on the guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology and the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology. HRV is lower in the group with moderate/intense menopausal symptoms compared to mild symptoms. (RMSSD: p = 0.005, Cohen's d = 0.53, pNN50: p = 0.0004, Cohen's d = 0.68; HF: p = 0.024, Cohen's d = 0.44). There was association between HRV and KMI (RMSSD: r = -1.248, p = 0.004; and pNN50: r = -0.615, p: 0.029) in inverse relation to the intensity of vasomotor symptoms in women in TM. In conclusion, HRV was able to distinguish menopausal symptoms, indicating reduced vagal control in women with more intense symptoms.
